Competition Rules

  1. Entrants to be under the age of 14 on 1st Sept 2023

  2. To be resident or attend school within a 50 mile radius of Taunton, and not be related to or have a professional relationship with the adjudicator.

  3. To have attained Grade 5 standard or above.

  4. To offer up to 3 contrasting pieces for adjudication of between 8 and 10 minutes including time for a short verbal introduction.

  5. To provide copies of the chosen music for the adjudicator. Photocopies will be retained and destroyed immediately after the event, in accordance with copyright regulations. (See festival rules)

  6. Entrants should provide their own accompanists, although an official accompanist may be available by arrangement with the festival.

  7. To confirm at checkout, that you have read the competition’s safeguarding policy as detailed on the application form.

The first 12 entries received will be guaranteed a place

Non-returnable entry fee is £20.

After submitting your entry you will be contacted by the competition secretary asking you to provide a programme of performance, short biographical details and a photograph.

1st Prize £100 and the Jefferson Horsley Trophy to be retained for one year.

On the day

  • All audience members will be admitted at a cost of £8 for the morning, with competitor’s teachers, all students and children admitted free of charge.

  • The admittance charge includes refreshments during the adjudicator deliberation period.

  • Photography/recording of events will not be allowed in the competition room.

  • The adjudicator’s decision may not be challenged or queried. Instead, any complaints should be directed to the organisers.

  • Please note that no photography or videoing will be permitted other than by the festival’s own official photographer.
